![]() | All Rayneriver puppies are born and raised in our home with an abundance of love, individual attention, and a variety of the right kind of social experiences. Exposure to regular human contact and common, everyday things is just as important as the puppies' interactions with each other and with their mother if they are to live happy, balanced lives. They are held, cuddled, kissed, played with and talked to every day by our family from birth. We hand-deliver our puppies to help eliminate some of the problems that can occur during whelping. We weigh them regularly, keep careful watch over their physical well-being, and maintain detailed records of their development. |
| As the puppies grow, we are continuously exposing them to a variety of sights, scents, sounds, textures, floor surfaces and environments. Doing so ensures they will be happy, well-adjusted puppies by the time they are ready to go to their new homes at between 7-8 weeks of age, and provides the foundation for a positive attitude toward new people and new experiences. They are socialized with our other dogs, cats, different adults, children, noise, music, objects and car rides. We create play spaces that are interesting and mentally stimulating, even in the puppy room itself. Depending upon the time of year and weather permitting, we carry the puppies outdoors to a safely-penned area. Here they can play, explore and roam while getting exposure to the wider world---life outside the stable confinements of their "nest". | ![]() |
![]() | A written guarantee which identifies the puppy, clearly outlines our responsibilities as breeders, as well as our expectations of the new owner. Further, it assures that you will be provided with a CKC registration certificate, that the pup was examined and vaccinated by my Veterinarian, and that the puppy is guaranteed against genetic hip, elbow, or heart problems up to 3 years of age, and eye faults until 5 years of age. In the event that a defect is noted, the purchase price (less deposit) will be refunded or a replacement will be given from the next available litter. It is strongly recommended that you have the puppy spayed or neutered and you will be required to sign a non-breeding agreement, which can be lifted if the dog is structurally sound with good temperament, and has received the appropriate health clearances by 2 years of age. Spaying or neutering your companion pet will stop many future problems and may give your pet a longer and healthier life. The breeder has the first option to buy the puppy back if for some reason you are unable to keep it. |
| At six weeks of age, the puppies are taken to the Veterinarian and receive a complete physical examination and their initial set of vaccinations. They are tested for internal parasites and started on the appropriate treatment, if necessary. They are also tattooed at this time. Should your dog ever become lost or stolen the tattoo can assist in its recovery. | ![]() |
![]() | We perform puppy aptitude tests on all of our puppies at age 7 weeks. The puppy aptitude test was designed to assist with the placement process by predicting adult temperament. It evaluates several components of temperament, such as interest in socializing with people, degree of dominance, curiosity, obedience potential, degree of physical energy and sensitivity to both sight and sound. The results of such testing, combined with several weeks of observing the puppies interact within a variety of situations, enables us to identify the right puppy for the right new family. Each puppy, like people, is individual and has a personality of its own. |
| A puppy care kit leaves with each puppy including a Puppy Informational Booklet which was created by us and contains tips and helpful advice on feeding, shelter/crates, housetraining, safe toys for your dog, exercise and play, stages of development your puppy will go through, training, health care/vaccination schedule, responsible dog ownership, and a list of recommended equipment, books and supplies to help you and your new Labrador in your partnership together. Also included in the puppy kit is a book titled "Labrador Retrievers - A complete Pet Owner's Manual"; Pedigree of the puppy showing the sire (father), and dam (mother), plus several additional generations; photos of the "parents-to-be"; Veterinary Record for your puppy; copies of Registration Certificates and Health Clearances for both parents; brochures on Heartworm and Lyme's Disease; Non-Breeding Agreement; Puppy Health Portfolio/dog food coupons courtesy of Eagle Pack Super Premium Pet Food; Membership Application forms for both the Canadian Kennel Club and the Labrador Retriever Club of Manitoba; and a little something from your four-legged friends here at Rayneriver. | ![]() |

We take our role as breeders
seriously and are responsible for the puppies we produce. Our puppies are very
special to us and will always have a place in our hearts. They deserve the best
homes we can find --- homes where they will be loved and cared for and respected.
Labradors are social animals by nature, and thrive on human contact. They are
happiest when they are spending quality time with you. All of our puppy clients
are interviewed well in advance of the time they receive their puppy. This allows
us to come to a mutual agreement on the type of puppy that will be best for them,
as well as to measure how well they meet our criteria of being responsible, caring
and considerate owners. By understanding what they are really looking for in a
dog, we can work more effectively to provide them with a puppy they will be truly
satisfied with. |
| We
encourage new owners to contact us anytime they have a concern or encounter a
problem. We're always here to answer your questions and provide training tips
and techniques. If we do not have an answer readily available, we will make inquiries
to locate the information and get right back to you. We thoroughly enjoy staying
in touch with our puppies and their new families. The updates, photos and visits
are wonderful! We like to plan at least one get-together with all of the puppies
from a particular litter. This gives the pups a chance to socialize and gives
us the opportunity to see how our puppies are maturing, thus guiding the direction
of our breeding program for generations to come. References are available upon request. | ![]() |
