| At Rayneriver, we
believe that every Labrador should be physically and mentally sound with beautiful,
correct type (confirmation) and demonstrate a willingness to work and train with
its owner, without sacrificing the important hunting and retrieving ability that
makes a Labrador a working retriever. More importantly, true Labrador temperament
is what sets this breed apart as does the "otter" tail. Our ideal disposition
is that of a happy, out-going nature; gentle, intelligent, and eager to please.
Even though these dogs are bred to do it all, the majority of Rayneriver Labradors
end up as devoted companions, bringing immeasurable joy to their new families
day after day. Rayneriver
is breeding conscientiously for temperament, type, trainability and soundness
from the finest English bloodlines. Blacks, yellows and chocolates are produced,
but focus is on the desired health and temperament traits rather than color. The breeding
program itself is based on a desire to improve our own stock and that of the breed
generally. Each breeding is planned with the utmost care to maximize all the genetic
advantage each parent has to offer. Much consideration is placed on examining
the strengths and weaknesses of both the male and female. Pedigrees are researched,
and structure, movement and temperament are analyzed, prior to a selection being
made regarding the breeding. All adult dogs are certified clear of any genetic
faults before being admitted into the breeding program. We breed only from animals
which have been: (1) X-rayed and certified clear of Hip Dysplasia and wherever
possible, Elbow Dysplasia, by the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) or the Orthopedic
Foundation for Animals (OFA); and (2) Examined by a qualified Canine Ophthalmologist
annually and certified clear of hereditary eye diseases such as Progressive Retinal
Atrophy (PRA) and Juvenile Cataracts. Visitors
are always welcome to come meet our dogs. Please phone ahead to make sure we're
at home. We also welcome your inquiries, and are happy to provide you with general information about the Labrador Retriever breed if required and answer any questions you may have. If you are interested in purchasing a puppy from us, in your e-mail please include background information on yourself, your lifestyle, location, and previous pet experiences. Be sure to also list the family activities you expect the dog to take part in. This type of information would assist us in choosing a puppy that will suit your needs. We would require a deposit to reserve a puppy for you, and the balance to be paid before the puppy leaves our premises. If we do not have any puppies available at the time, you may wish to contact us so that we can place you on our waiting list, or we can direct you to several of our reputable breeder friends who may have what you are looking for. |
